When I first heard of yoga weight lifting, I was intrigued. I did not do either one at the time, but I was interested in learning about both. I just did not know that I was going to learn them hand in hand this way. I decided to see what the connection was because I was just really curious. I know that yoga instructors are very strong and in incredible shape, but I thought that was just their genetics to be honest. It was not that I was discounting yoga, but I honestly thought that it was a simple thing to do.
The more I learned about it though, the more I realized just how disciplined a person has to be to do yoga. I thought it was all about stretching, but it entails so much more than that. Yoga actually gets to the point where people are able to lift and maintain their own body weight, which is just incredible to see. It is even more incredible when you realize that you have the ability to do the same thing! Now, how does weight lifting figure its way into all of this? Well, you have to be strong to lift your own body weight, and weight training is the way to do this.
A person’s muscles end up breaking down when there is a lot of resistance, but this is a good thing because when they repair themselves, they are bigger and better. It is a natural part of the weight training cycle, and yoga is actually beneficial to this when it comes to the time it takes muscles to repair themselves. I never thought that I would do both, but that is exactly what I am doing, and I could not be happier with the results, both physically as well as mentally!
